Is Values are missing from Current Education System

One of the reasons to send child to a school is to make them learn values. Everyone will have his or her own definition for values but for how one behaves in the society, how one reacts in different situation is very important. Today our children are more concern about the rat race, short-term goals are more important for them. It is not all students fault, current system force them to be a part of this rat race. The general feeling among the students is if you are not at the top, you are not good.
My question is, do we think this kind of system is good enough to inculcate values in our children or we need to do something?

I agree that the current education system is churning out more machines who can slog it out 24*7 and less humans with strong moral & ethical values. But, this is not entirely the fault of the current education system.
Earlier, parents (especially the mother) used to play the most vital role in imbibing strong moral values into her child. But, at present, the same mother is either too busy or too careless to play such a vital role. Moreover, schools today are known more for the infrastructure & results that they boast of. When we look out for schools for our child, we enquire as to which school has got a reputation for good facilities & gives good results. This whole outlook has changed the education system as well.
In my opinion, our teachers need to teach more than just the textbook stuff in order that there are more humans in the society than dispassionate & morally poor mechanised people.
